Van Gogh

Van Gogh is an 8 year old overo gelding. Stands just under 15/3 and very stout built. He looks like he has thick eye liner around his eyes. His color is so unusual with all of the splashes and swirls of color. He has brown eyes. but they have beautiful blue specks in them. Just something else to make him stand out. Flax mane and tail and 4 white legs, along with a wide blaze, give him all the chrome a person could ask for. Van Gogh is a 4 beat racking horse with a rocking horse canter. He will walk on a loose rein, and even gets borderline lazy on the trail. He has been overnight camping with us. Stands very quiet anywhere. I’ve actually never heard him nicker. He is so quiet. No pawing. No vices. No bad habits. Picks up feet with no effort at all. Great for the ferrier. Stands perfectly still for grooming and tacking. He does like to make a step or 2 when getting on, so you might have to do a circle or 2 with him on the ground to remind him to stand still. Once you are on him, he will want to go. Not take off running, just go. He may seem nervous when you go to take off. This is because of a bad trainer who spurred him way too much. He is anticipating a spur. As soon as he sees there is no spur, he’s happy to walk. He rides as well alone as he does in a group. Will cross anything, go anywhere you point him. This guy is an all business machine. He would have been my dad’s dream horse. Dad wanted a horse that worked. Did what he wanted, when he wanted. He didn’t love on them, and he didn’t want them in his space. Van Gogh is not looking for treats (although he loves them) or affection. He doesn’t even know how to react to someone petting and scratching on him. He will blow at me occasionally when I reach my hand out, then he comes to smell. He will occasionally take a step or 2 back, but that’s the extent. Jump around him…. make noise… doesn’t matter. He needs a rider that wants an all business horse or someone who has the time to spend with him daily to build that bond. He is a great model and always posing. He gets along great with other horses. Turn him out with mares or geldings… he doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. He’s almost scared to do something wrong. He is shod on all 4 feet, clean Coggins, vet check, and health records. The only disclosure on him is DO NOT USE SPURS OR KICK him. All you have to do is munch to get him to go. You can squeeze if necessary, but someone spurred the heck out of him, and he is not tolerant of that. Van Gogh is being sold on our auction site. His starting bid is only $1000 and he has no reserve. His previous price was $5500 and we have had him for 10 months now. This is not a flip or a horse we know nothing about.
